Demand & Support a Jobs Program and Rights for Walnut Terrace Residents

Jobs Rally and Press Conference
August 6th 10 AM
Walnut Terrace Community Center

Depression level unemployment is one of the worst crises facing our communities and is contributing to the others, such as housing, education and incarceration. We need jobs and we need them now. Every family and every community has been impacted.

Contrary to what Republicans, conservatives, and right- wingers say, people want to work but there are not enough jobs. For every job that becomes available there

Meet and March for Wake's Children - Friday Oct 30, 2009

The Problem: A newly elected school board in Wake County has already won a majority of seats for members who DO NOT support the current diversity policy that allows for busing based on socioeconomic status. They openly plan to dismantle the policy and end busing in support of neighborhood schools.

August 22nd Peoples Assembly in Raleigh

Nathanette Mayo and Angaza Sababu Laughinghouse of the Raleigh Peoples Assembly Organizing Committee have organized a report in & planning meeting on Saturday, August 22nd.

Please help spread the word:

Dear Peoples Assembly Participants and Supporters,

We all have been at it ! It's been a busy summer! Fighting against Budget Cuts that take away resources from our schools, city and state services/programs and fighting for jobs & against lay offs!We made the local city goverments hear our call for a fair budget & NC State Legislators come up with about a Billion$$$$dollars in taxes rather than cut us to the bone ! We have still have more to do in the midst of the struggle for Healthcare Reform.

We are calling a "report in & planning meeting" at 12 noon Sat. August 22nd at the NC Public Service Workers Union-UE Local 150 Office at 211 West Martin Street in Raleigh. Call us at 1-888-44-UE150

Recently, we all have been engaged in the Healthcare Town Hall meetings to make our demands for Healthcare for All heard ! However, news media has been dominated by the right-wing "race and red or socialist " baiting of the Obama's Administration's Public Option health care plan and those speaking out against Healthcare Reform. These rabid racist right-wingers have sought to close down any type of democratic discussion or debate on why working people want Healthcare for All!

Last week, a timely report was released about the $5.2 million raised by NC members of Congress from donors connected to the health care and insurance industries. The report describes the leading recipients of this money and their votes on past bills, particularly related to the pharmaceutical industry. These right wing racist are also being organized and funded as well.

This Saturday at noon, we must convene a planning meeting of the Peoples Assembly organizers and Healthcare for All supporters to report on our work/activities, assess the present situation and develop a plan of action to engage even more of organizations' members and communities. We can not effectively take on the challenges ahead of us during the upcoming weeks or months without us meeting together and working collectively to win advances on the rough road ahead.
See you there!

In Solidarity,

Nathanette Mayo and Angaza Sababu Laughinghouse for the Peoples Assembly Organizing Committee

Please join us.

Stand with breast cancer survivors of North Carolina

Stand with breast cancer survivors of North Carolina.

If you take only one political action this month, take this action. Stand with breast cancer survivors of North Carolina.

Thanks to Jane Hamsher at FireDogLake for leading the charge.

So together with BlueNC and Pam's House Blend, we reached out to my fellow breast cancer survivors in North Carolina. Women like Hazel and Connie, Juanita and Gail and Patricia and Yvette. Dorrita, Connie, Linda and Lotie. Mary, Pepper, Waddeah and Felicia. Women who have triumphed, women who have fought breast cancer and won. Women of all ages and races and sexual orientations who are not afraid to tell the truth and speak up on behalf of other women.

State of Emergency Budget Rally

North Carolina’s budget crisis is creating a state of emergency for all working families, who face devastating cuts to vital programs.

Join us for a rally that says "NO" to destructive budget cuts and "YES" to a balanced solution that is fair and progressive and includes new revenues.

When: Monday, June 15 at 5:30 p.m.

Where: Across from the Jones Street entrance to the Legislative Building. We’ll gather on the outdoor space between the NC Museum of History and the NC Museum of Natural Sciences

What: A rally followed by a march to the N.C. General Assembly to call on our state leaders to say “No” to destructive budget cuts and “YES” to a balanced solution

Why: Times are tough right now. The economy is down, unemployment is sky high, and hundreds of thousands of families are struggling. An unprecedented budget crisis threatens our state government’s ability to provide even the most basic of services. While all working families in North Carolina will feel the impact – cuts to education, health care, public safety and other crucial programs will disproportionately impact our most disadvantaged, disenfranchised, and vulnerable citizens: minority and low-income families, the disabled, older adults, and children.

A New Player in the Banking Reform Fight - Citizens!

By Mike Elk

The fact that regular citizens have been largely excluded from the debate over financial regulation on Capitol Hill was underscored most vividly when Sen. Richard Durbin, D-Ill, said last month that "frankly the banks own the place."

Financial Freedom Fest

Push back the gloom and doom of the economy with jazz music, free food, a dunking machine and games. Nonprofits providing financial services to individuals and advocating for financial reforms will be there.

The festival will be held Thursday, June 11 from 11am to 1pm at the Durham Downtown Plaza at the corner of Parrish and Corcoran Streets.

Everyone is invited to participate.
